Wednesday October 01, 2008 Remote desktop fails silently
I had remote desktop working on a WinXP Pro machine for ages, but hadn't accessed it for a couple months. When I tried to do so today, it failed. No error was displayed, I simply clicked on the Remote Desktop Client connect button, it greyed out for a second, then it re-enabled itself. I could click on it all I wanted, and it would never connect or give any indication why.
After much searching, I finally came across this blog, which pointed me towards graphic drivers as the issue. Sure enough, I had upgraded my Nvidia drivers in July, and that must have caused the problem.
Fortunately, I was able to fix this by upgrading to the latest Nvidia drivers (178.13, release Sept 25, 2008).
